MARBLES Annual Meeting 2025 in Ireland

The MARBLES consortium gathered in Cork, Ireland, for its fourth annual meeting from 27-28 August 2025. The meeting brings together partners from across Europe to review progress and plan the next steps in advancing marine biotechnology for a sustainable blue bioeconomy. Hosted by MARBLES partner the School of Microbiology at University College Cork, the event provided an opportunity for partners to share updates, align strategies and strengthen collaboration for the final year of the project.
Over two days of intensive discussions, the team explored their recent breakthroughs in marine natural product discovery, bioprospecting of deep-sea microbes and innovative approaches to developing bioactive compounds for possible applications in aquaculture, agriculture and human health. The meeting also focused on knowledge exchange, upcoming deliverables, and strategies for maximising the impact of MARBLES research. The consortium was joined by its advisory Panel of Industry Experts. Known as the ‘MARBLES PIE’, they assist partners with the selection of promising leads, act as a sounding board for the larger business community and assist in the creation of business cases for MARBLES results.
The annual meeting reaffirmed MARBLES’ commitment to collaborative research and innovation in marine biotechnology, ensuring that discoveries translate into real-world applications for environmental sustainability and health.
Stay tuned for more updates as MARBLES continues to explore the ocean’s hidden potential in its final year and plans the project’s final stakeholder and outreach events for Spring 2026!
